Nipper laments lack of goals
Sunday, 23rd Mar 2008"We are hoping to keep it at 0-0 because we are not going to get a goal and a point is maybe the best we are going to do.
Scott Thomson has made a significantly positive impact on Dunfermline's success or otherwise this season. Excluding the Challenge Cup, Dunfermline have only won once (at Dumfries in October) when Nipper has been missing. His record even after Saturday's reverse against Dundee is played 20, won eight, drawn eight and lost four. Justifiably he was very disappointed to be left out of the starting line up on Saturday but an injury to Calum Woods allowed the ex Club Captain to return to the fray. He commented after the match:- "I was pleased to get on. That's what happens when somebody gets injured.Greg (Shields) said that in the match programme. I was unfortunate to get injured against Hamilton, he was a bit lucky and he got in. Now young Calum (Woods) got a sore one; I think he needed a few stitches and I have got in so hopefully I can keep my case. "I am playing for a contract as well, whether it be here or whether it be elsewhere. I have just to put myself in the shop window and we shall see what happens at the end of the season. "The boss will be speaking to my agent this week and we will try and sort something out. It is my preference to stay here. I have been here ten years, I live local and all my wife's family are here. I would like to stay, we will just see what happens. Obviously budgets and things have to be sorted out." Scott was indifferent to the fact that it was his former team mate Freddie Daquin who scored, dwelling in preference on the bad luck that let the Frenchman score:- "It was a wee slip. Scott Morrison knows himself that he just got caught the wrong side of him. Freddie's hit the shot, Gall got a touch to it and I thought it was actually coming off the post and out to me but it hit the post spun and gone in. "Not just because it was Freddie. You just want to win games, especially your home games to give the fans something to go away speaking about after the season we have had. "The league table doesn't lie. We are deservedly in the position that we are in. You just have to look at the teams above you and get as many points on board. We don't want to just fizzle out to the end of the season. We want to excite the fans and play good football to hopefully get them back next year because we are going to be stuck in this Division next year. "The way we played today, I thought it had 0-0 written all over it. It didn't look as if we were going to score although I didn't think they caused many problems either. One little slip and they got the goal. That's what happens when they are in the position they are in and we are in the position that we are in." Jim McIntyre highlighted the lack of chances in recent games in his post match comments and Scott agreed that as a defender it was unpleasant to witness very little being created to bother the opposing keeper:- "That's worrying for us. When you are playing at the back and you get the chances you think get a goal or two up. We know we are going to create chances but in the last two or three games, like the gaffer said, we are hoping to keep it at 0-0 because we are not going to get a goal and a point is maybe the best we are going to do. "Especially at home, in any league it is just not good enough. Our home form hasn't been good and that's why we are where we are in the league. It is our own fault. "I could not see them scoring and their strikers had one or two shots at the end when we were going for the equaliser. We were leaving gaps when we went three at the back. Greg was pushing on or I was pushing on so you were always going to leave open spaces for them to get wee chances like that." Freddie Daquin spoke after the match:- "After Hamilton we wanted to win games and we were happy to do it today. But we won't give up. We have to play every game for a win. We stay focused, we know we still have a chance and we're going to do our best to take it.
"It's special, exciting, we want to challenge to go up and we are still there.
Freddie did admit that to play against his former team mates was different:-
"It was strange playing against them and seeing familiar faces."
