Nick's time comes

"I actually expected Stephen Glass to shoot when Burchy cut it back, but he's played a great disguised pass and I've just got it at my feet and tried to hit the target."

Dunfermline's second goal on Saturday was scored by Nick Phinn, firing home in his 12th appearance for his debut goal. Naturally he was delighted:-

"It was my first senior goal, obviously it feels great. The boys congratulated me after. I actually expected Stephen Glass to shoot when Burchy cut it back, but he's played a great disguised pass and I've just got it at my feet and tried to hit the target."

Nick has put away goals in the Under 19s and reserves in the past but modesty made him play any suggestion that he had a real eye for goal:-

"I suppose that's up to the other boys and the gaffer. I just try to play my usual game and get a goal when I can. I'm not really a renowned goalscorer but I'll get them when I get them."

The 19 year old shares the fans hopes that his first goal will be followed by many more:-

"I hope so. It would be great to go on a run obviously if I get another couple of starts. That was my first game, even getting on for a wee while so just glad to get a goal with it as well."

Phinn hits the net

Nick was the youngest Dunfermline player ever to start an SPL game when he was selected to play at the Falkirk Stadium at the age of 17 years 5 months and 28 days. This season he has started six games and come off the bench four times.

"For the last couple of weeks there I've been struggling to get a game. Stephen Simmons came off ill, I don't think he was injured, at half time so I got my chance. Hopefully I've put myself in with a chance of playing next week."

A week ago the Pars were hanging on but with Nick thrown into the fray the side failed to hold on to their one goal advantage yielding two points to Partick Thistle. Against Queen of the South it was a different scenario:-

"I suppose having the comfort of a goal ahead it allows the boys to settle down a bit and maybe play a wee bit more football, but again towards the end it was more kind of hang on, and we were sitting deep and sitting deep and it was just a case of getting the three points."

Three important points agreed Nick:-

"Definitely. That's the first three points for a while. The last time we got three points was against Queen of the South in October. The boys are just happy to get three points. I suppose it's been a long while waiting so the boys are delighted to get a win."

Was Nick keen to see Jim McIntyre installed as Manager?

"I'm not sure who's in the running. I'm sure if Macca was to be offered the job he would do a great job as a gaffer. All the boys are liking his training. All the boys are definitely backing him."

The difference in the training has not been immense according to the youngster:-

"The boys are just buzzing in training. It's hard to pick out certain things, it's just one of those things that happens."

The win lifted the Pars out of the play-off spot now and Nick is hopeful that can kick start their season:-

"We hope the boys can relax and play a bit more football. We know we've got a great bunch of boys and a great squad and hopefully we can show that from now on."

Nineteen points behind Hamilton and Dundee Nick would not rule out catching them:-

"I definitely wouldn't put it out the window. I wouldn't say it's out of the question but you never know we just have to take it hopefully game by game."
