Thommo Confidence is Building

Friday, 21st Dec 2007

"We just want to climb this league as quick as possible and get away from the bottom of the league.

Scott Thomson reflected on the 1-1 draw with Partick and looked forward to the match against Queen of the South. He felt that the enforced retiral of both Mark Burchill and Scott Wilson left the reshuffled side with a big job to hold on to one point last Saturday:-

"Kevin Harper was at right back, Stephen Simmons alongside me at centre half and it was only me and Danny (Murphy) who were the only natural defenders. It was hard at the end, especially the last quarter of an hour was like the Alamo; we just couldn't get out of our own half.

"If the penalty had gone in we would have been disappointed not to take the three points but in the end I think a draw was probably a fair result since they would have been disappointed had they lost."

The Thistle game was just Scott's second 90 minutes since returning from injury and he admits its harder as you get older to get back up to speed.

"I am not fully back to where I was but I will do, and I feel that I am getting there."

Scott has seen the side's confidence rise while remaining undefeated in the last two league games:-

"We have created a lot more chances and we feel that we are getting better. The boys are low on confidence so that's what they (QOS) will be saying; hoping to get a good start and get the crowd quiet. It is the same with any home team, if things are not going well and it goes all quiet then they will be up for that even more.

"People keeping asking 'do you think we still have a chance of promotion' but we are just looking to get above the team that's ahead of us. We are not looking at where we are going to be in April, we just want to climb this league as quick as possible and get away from the bottom of the league."

With the Pars occupying 9th place - a play off spot - the Board acted to remove Stephen Kenny and has shown great patience in their search to appoint a new Manager. This is not something that Scott would be critical of:-

"I kind of agree with the Board. It is a big decision, you do not want to rush into something and then not get the right person in. You want to take your time, see your options and get it sorted out after that."

The Caretaker Manager has come in with new ideas and Scott has seen this happen before. He can compare previous Pars gaffers all of whom he has played under:-

"You could ask me how do things compare with Jimmy Mac to Stephen Kenny, Jimmy Mac to Jimmy Calderwood, Jimmy Mac to Willie Miller - everybody is different, everybody has there own ideas. Macca has come in with his own ideas and we just get our heads down. If Macca gets the job obviously the boys would be happy with that but if somebody else gets the job. It doesn't matter who comes in, we all have to play for him."
