Stephen Glass Post Challenge Cup
Sunday, 25th Nov 2007"There was only going to be one winner because of the way they start
Stephen Glass considers that there are some positives to take from Challenge Cup defeat although he could not explain why his team lost three goals within the first 30 minutes.
"We had a real bad start; we seem to be doing that a lot recently but this time we managed to find a bit of spirit and have a go. It looked like we might come back.
"They started so well and we started so poorly, it was always an uphill battle. There was only going to be one winner because of the way they started the game.
"We didn't start the actual game too badly but once they got the first goal we quickly lost the three goals. After that the Manager changed the shape of the team and we came back into it and were a wee bit stronger. Calum Woods was unfortunate that he was the one who went off because it was a tactical change. He had been doing really well for us but the Manager chose to take him off. It could have been anyone at the point, in order to change the shape of the team.
"The change gave them more problems than they were giving us. It gave us a platform to build on and take the fight to them.
"We showed what we could do, but they had the right to sit in and soak it up a bit. They scored their goals in the first half and they can play it the way they see it. They didn't need to go chasing the game; we were chasing the game so sometimes you see players looking good when they are getting beat 4 or 5 nil and it is sometimes easy to look good individually when you are in that sort of position.
"Our team looked better when we were in arrears today, a bit stronger and a bit better. The positives are in recent weeks when we have gone behind it has been the end of the day straight away - lose the first goal and we look like we are beat straight away. When we lost three goals at Dens and people would probably be wondering 'what's the score going to be'? We managed to turn that around and have a real go, especially late on. We gave them a little bit of a fright.
"There are not too many points in the whole league, apart from Hamilton and Dundee, but if you can start getting results you can climb the table quite rapidly. That has got to be the aim and if you win a couple of games, it looks brighter if you are sitting in the top half rather than sitting second bottom saying that there's not much difference. The fact is we need to start getting wins and we have to start soon.
"Dundee will be a difficult game because they have just beat the league leaders - they will be on a high hoping to put us even further behind. They possibly still see us as potential challengers but they will see it as a chance to tuck us away and hopefully not bother them again. We need to make sure we claw them back. As long as there are enough points you have always got belief. If we can win our games anything is possibly; we shall see - time will tell."
