Muirhead laments weekend off
Monday, 8th Oct 2007"The break is annoying, I would have liked to get two games together but it is stop start again. Its Hamilton in two weeks, its massive but we owe them one ...
The international break means no league matches this weekend but it gives the Pars injured an extra week to recover. The players will be training all week but will have the unusual occurrence of a weekend off before getting back to the business of playing for their next big game at home against the league leaders a week on Saturday.
Not everyone is keen on the break withScott Muirhead disappointed that he has to wait now for his fifth start of the season. He discussed the Pars win at Dumfries, the penalty given against Scott Wilson and the penalty not given when Jamie McQuilken took down Mark Burchill:-
"He just thought the boy fell kind of easily but it is just what happens. I thought we were denied a stonewaller of a penalty in the first half but he never gave that."
It was the sixth penalty that had been given against Dunfermline this season but Scott felt that is just the way it goes "you have just got to get on with it."
The 1-0 over Queen of the South that completed the first diet of fixtures, takes Dunfermline into their highest league placing of the season, Scott continued:-
"It was a massive result for us. Obviously we would have liked to have scored more but the most important thing is that we got the three points. We fully deserved it; the way we played in that first half was really good. We kept the ball well but in the second half we stepped off them a bit and let them come into it a bit. The last ten minutes were a bit shaky.
"I thought we defended well and played well as a team. Burchy created a good few chances and our movement created a lot of problems. We are getting points although sometimes it is not pretty. Hamilton won against Dundee so to take three points was important."
For Scott Muirhead to complete 90 minutes of football was just as important for him. The ex Dons' season so far had been two opening league matches and seven minutes against Airdrie in the Challenge Cup after his comeback after a five week absence through injury:-
"I am just glad to be back playing. I have been pulling my hair out. I haven't done anything for seven weeks but I felt great. The last twenty minutes my legs were going a bit. There is a big difference fitness wise between doing all the running and getting your match fitness back.
"The break is annoying, I would have liked to get two games together but it is stop start again. Its Hamilton in two weeks, its massive but we owe them one anyway. We must win because we are points behind them and we need to get a few results together ourselves. Hopefully three points against them will start us get back up the league again."
