Stephen Kenny post BK Hacken
Thursday, 30th Aug 2007"We have gone out and been unlucky to lose. Overall we had the better chances but we haven't taken them. It is a very very fine line that's me giving an honest assessment."
Stephen Kenny said:-
"We are disappointed; we had a couple of real great chances in the first half - gilt edged chances that you should really take. Hacken have scored with their only shot in the whole game and Paul Gallacher hasn't had any semblance of saves to make in the game.
"We had a few chances in the second half as well. We paid the price because they took the opportunity when it was presented to them and we didn't."
On the sending off:-
"It seemed extremely harsh again. He didn't look offside for a start and he has gone and finished it. We just have to move on rather not dwell on it.
"We looked like we were well on top at that point, obviously Jim's aerial presence is important to us and than having ten men then made it difficult. They did contain us well enough with ten men, we had a good few chances on setpieces but with ten men it was going to be hard. If someone is attacking you and you have ten men you have a chance of hitting them on the counterattack and so forth but they were containing us and we had to go and break them down with ten. It becomes a bit more difficult.
"Stephen Crawford had a great chance in the first half and Jim Hamilton from Owen Morrison's cross. In fairness they were both playing well at that point. Stephen hit it really well, I expected to see the back of the net bulge when he hit it but it didn't go in.
"We have gone out to their only effort, it was very very marginal really. The first shot at goal in the home tie was the freak goal in the first leg so it is very marginal."
In the build up to the game there had been much speculation and rumours around your future. How would you access your future now, asked the Scottish press?
"I can't comment on rumour. It is all news to me you know to be honest. Basically I have come in here with the team at the bottom of the league and OK we had a lot of problems. We have beaten Hearts, Rangers, Hibs and brought Dunfermline to their Scottish final for only the second time in forty years, qualified for European competition and brought the first European match to East End in forty years.
"We are a couple of games into the season and we won last weekend. We weren't happy that we lost in earlier league games but we won last weekend and it is very early days in the season.
"There is no point in talking about rumours" and in reply to the question 'will you be in charge for the St Johnstone game replied "I don't think I even need to answer that question, basically we are a couple of games into the season - we have gone out of Europe. Hearts went out in the first round last year, Hibs went out in the first round the previous year, Gretna went out in the first round. We have gone out and been unlucky to lose. Overall we had the better chances but we haven't taken them. It is a very very fine line that's me giving an honest assessment."
