Souleymane Bamba has signed a two year extension on his contract that will keep him at East End Park until May 2010. Stephen Kenny announced the welcome news on Tuesday lunchtime just over 48 hours before the Pars face BK Hacken in the Second Leg of the UEFA Cup. Sol was Dunfermline's Man of the Match in the 2007 Scottish Cup final and attracted a fair amount of speculation that he might leave the club for greater things so everyone at East End Park is delighted that the French born defender has decided to stay in Fife.
The 22 year old centre half was initially signed from Paris St Germain at the start of the 2006-07 season. Sol was with PSG from the age of 14 and he starred in the Youth and B teams, but was not able to establish a regular place in the senior squad. Impressed after a trial period and was rewarded with a two year contract. He has played international football at youth level for his parents homeland, Ivory Coast. The 6' 3" defender played for the "Baby Elephants of C?te d'Ivoire" in the 2005 African Youth Championship and is currently part of their team trying to qualify for the Bejing Olympics in 2008.
