UEFA Cup Second Leg Venue
Sunday, 5th Aug 2007UEFA Cup tie against BK H?cken will take place in Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadium.
Chairman John Yorkston confirmed this morning (Sunday) that the second leg of Dunfermline Athletic's UEFA Cup tie against BK H?cken will take place in Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadium. There were fears that the match might have to be played at the Second Division side's Ramvergsvallen ground on its artificial surface.
This news will come with some relief to Pars fans who have already made travel arrangements since had the game gone ahead at the 7000 capacity ground, then the ticket allocation could have been as low as 400. Had that been the case, allocation would have had to have been prioritised.
While some may see the draw that means Dunfermline will play the home leg first as a disadvantage, the Ullevi Stadium was not available on Thursday 16th August so with the away leg coming second, the 43,000 all seater stadium is available a fortnight later. For the expected 1000 strong Pars support there will be no need for tickets.
Many fans have already booked flights with budget airlines and many will be seeking to prolong their stay in Sweden by arriving early or staying on for the weekend. The Club's official travel package is expected to be known on Monday and that will be departing Edinburgh Airport on the Wednesday, accommodation in a three star hotel and returning immediately after the match on Thursday night.
John Yorkston added that he was pleased with the draw:-
"We are as happy as we could be, happier had the away game been first because generally you would like the second game to be at home. It gives us a chance but H?cken will be saying the same about us. Like us they were relegated last season but qualified through the Fair Play route."
The Chairman was hoping that some of his management team might be able to attend Sunday evening's match at the Ramvergsvallen when BK H?cken meet ?sters IF. There is also a possibility of them taking in another BK H?cken match next Sunday.
