Jamie McCunnie post final

"The longer the game went on the greater the belief that we could win the game.

Jamie McCunnie felt that Dunfermline missed a really big chance to lift the Scottish Cup on Saturday:-

"We were on top it was just unfortunate the goal we lost was very disappointing. After the way we played in the first half; we went out there and kept them at bay, got on the ball and got confidence. We opened them up a few times through Mark Burchill and Jim McIntyre and we wanted to win the game.

"Don't get me wrong, any time we have played against them this season we have shut up shop but today the Manager went for it.

"The longer the game went on the greater the belief that we could win the game. They made their changes - took off Lennon and brought Gary Caldwell in. That meant that Nakamura came in the park a bit more and they started enjoying more of the ball than they had been. I still wouldn't say that they were on top. It was end to end.

"Everybody called it the Neil Lennon final; he is a nice guy and good luck to him but we were there to do a job. We definitely didn't let ourselves down but it was a s*** goal to lose. We can go home with our heads held high, we never won it but we did ourselves justice."

The Dunfermline style has been transformed under Stephen Kenny and Jamie thought that the approach had been correct:-

"We took pelters in the press at the start of the season but the new Manager brought three wingers in and got Jim McIntyre back from injury. Celtic fans may have applauded us but Celtic won the cup at the end of the day."

Jamie sat down with Manager Stephen Kenny before the final but it was decided to get the cup final out of the way before negotiations got underway.

"We will see what the options are. Although we are in Europe I have been in the First Division before. We will have a difficult season next year in the First Division. Everything was going rosy for a while; we thought that we could avoid relegation and we had a good chance in the cup. But it just wasn't to be."
