Dorus de Vries Post Final
Saturday, 26th May 2007"They are the double champions and everybody expected them to win today, they are the giants and we are the smaller team. Unfortunately we couldn't turn the compliments
Dorus de Vries talked about the Cup Final defeat at the hands of Celtic and was quick to admit that although his side had performed well it was possibly no surprise that in the end the SPL champions came out on top:-
"Celtic had the better chances. They didn't take them and I thought at least it was going to extra time, unfortunately Doumbe scored a bit of a cheeky goal. He made a run and somebody didn't cover him up and he got into the 18 yard box. He touched it in to the far post and it was a goal. 1-0 and you can't believe it."
On the suggestion that no one would have been able to differentiate which team was the top team and which the bottom of the SPL, Dorus replied
"That is a compliment to us. They are the double champions and everybody expected them to win today, they are the giants and we are the smaller team. Unfortunately we couldn't turn the compliments into a victory."
Now of course the big question for Dorus to answer is will he be at East End Park next season for the First Division challenge or will he depart for pastures new?
"I honestly don't know yet. I have already agreed terms but we got relegated. I was really happy where I stayed in Dunfermline; I had really good time. I was progressing and getting compliments from my goalie coach as well. Stevie Woods really made me better. Those points make me think about staying. I have to sort everything out in the next week, clear out my mind and see what I can do."
Are Dundee United and Hibs interested in his services?
"I read something about that last week as well in newspapers but I was just focussing on the cup and the last couple of games in the relegation battle. I might see what comes up after this weekend in the way of offers."
