Dunfermline`s fate was sealed last Saturday at Inverness although that was just the consequence of too few points collected, not just last Saturday, but throughout the season. The Falkirk support would have enjoyed sending the Pars into the First Division, at least now they won`t have the pleasure of inflicting the pain.
The fact that Saturday`s game is a local derby will mean that there will be something at stake even though it is only what`s loosely termed bragging rights. Results against the Auld Enemy have contributed to the Pars demise this season; three defeats and not even one goal scored against the Bairns. It was the 0-3 home defeat to Falkirk on 4th November that sent Dunfermline to the foot of the SPL table, a position they were not to improve on for the rest of the season.

The Pars have the upper hand in league meetings at East End, but only just.
A win for Dunfermline would take them to 35 points which ironically would be their best total in the last three seasons. 35 would be two more than last season when they finished 11th and level on points with Falkirk and Dundee United and one more than 2004-05 when Dunfermline finished one point above relegated Dundee with 34 points.
Falkirk are assured a seventh place finish and have little to play for.
