Pars lose appeal
Friday, 11th May 2007An appeal against Scott Wilson's red card turned down by SFA.
Dunfermline Athletic have lost a Claim of Wrongful Dismissal in respect of the sending off of Scott Wilson for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity in the match against Motherwell on 7th May.
For Claims for the offences of denying the opposing team or an opponent a goal or obvious goal scoring opportunity as defined by Law 12, the referee is given the opportunity of reviewing the circumstances of the sending off. If he indicates that he is content with his decision, the Claim is dismissed automatically and is not referred to the Review Panel.
Following a review of the video evidence, Dougie McDonald confirmed he was entirely satisfied with his decision.
Claims for such offences should come forward only in very exceptional circumstances and are expected to demonstrate that an obvious refereeing error has occurred This was not the case in this incident and, in the context of the application of the Law, there was no error at all by the referee.
Dunfermline Athletic forfeit the £1000 appeal fee.
