O'Brien wants 'Well beat
Saturday, 5th May 2007"We know we need to do the right things and hopefully someone else can do us a favour.
There might only be three matches left of his Dunfermline career, but Monday night can't come quick enough for on loan Celt, Jim O'Brien. Since his arrival from the Parkhead club in January he has started every match for the Pars with the exception of the SPL match against Celtic. In his 16 appearances Dunfermline have won eight, drawn four and lost four and had that form started earlier in the season then they wouldn't be at the foot of the table. Jim praised the defence for being the reason for the resurgence:-
"Consistency has been lacking. Dorus de Vries and the lads at the back have been the foundation for us. They have been brilliant since I have come in and it is nice to see."
Jim played down the pressure that has to be piling on the Dunfermline players:-
"It's just another week and we are just looking forward to our game. We know we need to do the right things and hopefully someone else can do us a favour. We are just looking forward to Monday."
Dunfermline's success has come with playing the ball to feet, especially those of O'Brien and Hammill in wide positions. Stephen Kenny has stressed how important it is for players to be confident with their ability. That will have to remain high following St Mirren's fourth win of the season at Dundee United on Saturday.
Dunfermline's record against Motherwell this season is played three and lost three, but then that was St Mirren's record against Dundee United until Saturday. Jim recalled the match he played against 'Well on the last day of March:-
"When we played them at Fir Park we weren't at our best, especially in the second half. We let it die a bit but we have been decent at home, the Manager wants East End Park to be a hard place to come to get a result. We have done that over the last month and a half or so. It is nice from that point of view."
The 19 year old Republic of Ireland U21 does yet know what is happening about his return to Celtic Park, but he claims that is at the back of his mind:-
"There are a lot of important games for the club and the most important thing for Dunfermline is to play in the Premierleague. People were writing us off at nine points behind but we have the momentum and are back in it. In the way we have been playing and keeping clean sheets it is just reward for us."
Monday night is not the time for all that hard work being undone. C'Mon ye Pars!
