Tam McManus Post Dundee United
Saturday, 21st Apr 2007"A lot of supporters and media thought we were relegated so to come back the way we have shows some great character.
Tam McManus started by talking about his 33rd minute goal:-
"In the context of the position that we are in, it is a big goal. I think I have to give credit to the whole team especially the back four and the goalkeeper who were outstanding today. We held on a bit in the second half and couldn't really get the ball upfront and hold on to it. I have to put the praise on to the defence and midfield."
Tam described his goal, his first for Dunfermline Athletic and his first league goal since 18th February 2006:-
"I just saw Greg Shields make a run down the wing; Macca made a good run to the front post and I have just peeled off the centre half to the back post and it was a perfect cross for me. I just connected with it really well to get in a header that bulged the net. Thankfully for me it went in the net."
Having been signed from Falkirk Tam is looking for some of his former team mates to do Dunfermline a favour when they meet St Mirren on Monday night. He has kept in touch with Mark Twaddle and Stephen O'Donnell and feels that they will let things slacken with the game being live on Setanta.
"A lot of players are out of contract there and it is a good chance to impress, if not the Manager other teams. I am sure that they will try their best but we just have to look after ourselves. We have got to try and win at St Mirren, no matter what.
"They are professional, they will give it their best. If St Mirren win fair play to them, we cannot ask for favours at this stage of the season.
"The boys are battling hard and when St Mirren came here and drew 0-0 we were nine points behind. A lot of supporters and media thought we were relegated so to come back the way we have shows some great character. There are a lot of big characters in the dressing room who will not settle for second best and keep trying to the death.
"We play St Mirren in the next league game and that is a crucial game. We have reacted in the right manner when nine points behind - we had to try and win three or four games and everybody has played their part. We are one point behind now and hopefully we can get in front of them."
If you were at St Mirren now would you be concerned?
"They are still a point clear with a game in hand and have us at home. They are still in the stronger position, there is no doubt about that. I would say the pressure is still on them because they were a great deal of points ahead of us at one stage."
