Tam McManus post Hibs
Monday, 9th Apr 2007"We are delighted with the three points. We have had a tough season but the boys are scratchin
"The most important thing for us today was to win the game, it was a massive game for us. To get three points when it looked like being 0-0; big Phil has popped up with what could be a priceless winner for us.
"It means a lot; with the Manager under pressure. He gives us a lot of praise and his training is good. We just want to do it for him and the fans. I have only been here a couple of games and the passion is there from all the players. We are desperate to stay up.
"We went up to Inverness and were 1-0 down at half time but came back to win 3-1. That showed the character we have got. Again to today we dug out the win.
"I have played two games and we have won two games. Maybe if I'd been here earlier we could have gone for the Champions League" jested Tam.
"We are delighted with the three points. We have had a tough season but the boys are scratching for everything.
"The first half today we were excellent, second half Hibs came into it as you expect. Andy McNeil is a great keeper and he pulled off a few great saves, a couple from myself. We kept plodding away and got the goal in the end."
The three points, coupled with Rangers 1-0 at St Mirren narrows the gap to four points. While it confounds Tam how Dunfermline have got themselves in this predicament he is keen to exert as much pressure on the Buddies as possible:-
"When you look at the quality of players that we have here, the quality sitting on the bench and in the stand you scratch your head. But they are down there for a reason and the reason is that we have not been good enough.
"It puts pressure on St Mirren; we were nine points behind when we drew 0-0 here. Their fans were celebrating and I am sure the St Mirren players thought they were safe but we never thought for a minute that it was over. We have home games coming up and we play them again so the pressure is on them."
Tam really would like to prove those Paisley fans wrong and the image of their celebration at the end of the 0-0 draw back on 10th March is the spur especially when Dunfermline travel to play St Mirren on Monday 30th April:-
"That is etched on all the players memory. It is not all over yet and we will be fighting to the end. That game is crucial, it is a massive game for us. We will probably have to go there and win. That will not be easy, St Mirren get a lot of players behind the ball and defend well but we are on a good wee roll at the moment and hopefully we can take it in the next few games."
Because he was an unused substitute at Berwick on 6th January Tam cannot be involved in next Sunday's Scottish Cup tie, something that really annoys the 26 year old striker:-
"I was on the bench for Falkirk but never got on, so why should I be cup tied? To play well today and miss out next week is gutting for me. I hope we win but it will not be a walkover for Hibs, we will fight and scratch for everything. Nobody is going to walk over us, Hibs will know they are in a game next week. It will be a different game, it is a big big pitch. Hibs destroyed Kilmarnock in the CIS Insurance Cup Final. We know we are underdogs next week, there is no doubt about that but we will give it our best and see where it takes us."
