Dorus de Vries Post Motherwell
Monday, 2nd Apr 2007"It is up to us, it is not up to St Mirren - we have to keep winning our games and at least take points to build up the pressure........
"We started well on the back of a good win a couple of weeks ago when we won 3-1 at Inverness. We were positive and came here well prepared having stayed over in a hotel.
"We thought we were definitely the better team but that is the game, it takes 90 minutes then the game is over. The first 45 were good and I thought that we were the better side. Like at Inverness we came in at half time saying just finish it, we have started it just keep a clean sheet and finish well. The second half was poor, not good enough as a team and we deserved to lose.
"I have no complaints about the penalty." After much jumping and waving about on his line Dorus could do nothing as Scott McDonald sent the ball to his left and into the net. Minutes later however Dorus did get down well to his left to turn away a Keegan header that would certainly have finished the game off early:-
"They had a good header, it was a good chance for them. We stayed one nil down and I thought maybe we could do the same as we have done all season - 1-0 down and then turn it around. Unfortunately we didn't do it.
"The second goal was terrible, there is nothing much we can say about that at all it was just a flick on through the middle that you get so many times but to score off it was too easy.
"It is quite strange though we have managed this season in a couple of chances when we were 1-0 down and even two weeks ago as well. You could see the faces go down.
The team were aware that Falkirk were beating St Mirren but Dorus emphasised:-
"It is up to us, it is not up to St Mirren - we have to keep winning our games and at least take points to build up the pressure on St Mirren. That is all we can do. We did it two weeks ago but I am disappointed with the result today but we have to stay positive because we have Hibs next week, it is a big game but not impossible.
"Personally because in training and in recent games, I do not feel like we are a team that are bottom of the league. Sometimes you can notice it. I heard the guys talking about Livingston last season, you can tell they are bottom of the league but I do not believe we are a bottom of the league team. That is why we are still positive, there are still plenty of games left and we have that clash against St Mirren. It is a difficult game of course but we have to take it step by step.
"Hopefully St Mirren will lose their games - they are not doing well at the moment as well. We were doing quite well in the last couple of games so hopefully we can get a good result against Hibs, at least a point so that we can keep up the pressure. We are not throwing in the towel, absolutely not."
