Stephen Kenny Post Inverness
Saturday, 17th Mar 2007"It is a mystery to me how we have not scored more goals because we play a very attacking way.
"It was an important victory for us. It is hard to fathom why we can score six goals against Rangers, Hearts and Partick Thistle in the three Cup games; we played well in these games with an element of good fortune in the cup games that has avoided us in the league.
"We have dominated some league games in recent weeks and got draws. We maybe haven't dominated the league games that we lost but we did well in some of the games we lost and dominated a couple of games we drew. For us to be 1-0 down at half time today nine points behind at the bottom of the league, that is a serious question for the morale of your team.
"The players answered that, they were very defiant in their response and showed tremendous spirit. Good ability as well and probably on the day deserved to win."
The Pars manager was asked whether there was an element of risk in starting with both Jim McIntyre and Tam McManus, neither of whom had previously started a match for Dunfermline.
"It was based on merit because they played against Motherwell last week at East End in the reserves. There movement was very good and they had a bit of understanding. Jim has had a very difficult injury that sometimes people do not come back from - it has ruled him out for the whole season really. It has been hard to get him his sharpness because training in the winter and reserve games are stop start. He now looks that he is much sharper, he led the line very very well today. I was very impressed with him. Tam had a great debut, it was just unfortunate the way that it ended up."
Of McManus's red card, Stephen Kenny said:-
"I would like to view it again on video. I think it looked like his momentum took him. I don't think it was deliberate because why would you do it deliberately when you are three one up on your debut and in the 93rd minute? He was so committed going up the line, up the line, skipped over and I would like to see it again because I think video evidence will exonerate him.
"He has only signed a short term deal because he was looking to go to Finland. He's hoping to do well, I had only seen him play for Falkirk reserves and thought he was very good. I am at a disadvantage because I probably don't know some of the players around. I didn't know he had a history of doing well at Hibs before."
Questioned on the prospects now for his team's SPL survival, Stephen Kenny responded:-
"We are not discussing St Mirren, we are discussing ourselves. From our point of view we have Motherwell away in the next game and can't really look beyond that. We are still not in a great situation, we are still six points (behind) with an inferior goal difference. We are still in a difficult situation.
"Motherwell have done well at home this season and we can't look beyond that game in two weeks time. We have a few players suspended for that game; Scott Wilson and Jim Hamilton.
"Sometimes you can look too far ahead and you say we are going to do this or do that. I think really we have to go to Motherwell and see how it goes. From my point of view we wanted to give ourselves a chance, some semblance of a chance, and I think that is what we have achieved, we have given ourselves at least that.
"It is a mystery to me how we have not scored more goals because we play a very attacking way. O'Brien and Hammill have been very very good and in fact Adam was probably at least his less influential in the first half since he came to the club. Inverness to be fair created more of the chances in the first half and were dangerous. They scored a goal and had one or two other chances. It wasn't a formality, it was a tough game for us."
