Stephen Glass Post Dundee United
Saturday, 27th Jan 2007It gives us a chance and we`ve gained a point on the rest of the teams today despite not winning.
Stephen was not put out that he had to play his Dunfermline debut at left back:-
"I got the chance to come to the club and the Manager asked me to play there. I`d rather be playing there than sitting on a bench and never getting a chance to get on. I am grateful for the chance and I am hopeful that I have done well enough. I would rather be playing midfield but needs must."
Stephen is on loan from Hibs until the end of this season:-
"The Manager was willing to let me go, so that tells a story. Despite having eighteen months left of my contract he is willing to go with games coming up this week. I wasn`t playing a part as a squad member. I was there as a body but not really coming on the pitch so I was happy enough to get away and get playing. As it stands at the minute, I will be going back to the club in the summer and competing for a place again. That is what I want to do, whether I get that opportunity, whether they want me to do that is up to them."
Does Stephen see belief at Dunfermline that they can prevent relegation?
"Definitely. You can see the fighting spirit that was there today. United pressured us a lot in the second half - putting a lot of balls into the box but the defence stood up strong. The goalkeeper took a lot of good balls and in the whole team you saw people like Stevie Crawford in the midfield fighting away for the team. That is the sort of spirit that is there, everybody pulling in the same direction. It gives us a chance and we`ve gained a point on the rest of the teams today despite not winning."
The players at Dunfermline are not all unknown to Stephen. He knows some from days at Aberdeen, from the Scotland Under 21s and from playing against them. All this should help him settle in and make a success of his days at Dunfermline. He feels that there is every possibility of avoiding the drop:-
"We have players who can do things and hopefully climb up the league. The young lad Adam Hammill who came on is a fantastic player and the sort who can provide a spark for a team like this. He can do special things and looks a real good talent.
It seemed Stephen was taking every free kick, has the responsibilities for setpieces been handed over to the on loan player?
"If the Manager asks me then yes. It is a bit of responsiblity but hopefully I can deal with that and put in the sort of quality that the lads are looking for. We have got plenty lads who can header it so given the right service I am sure that they can get a few goals and the results we are looking for.
"I cannot comment because I haven`t seen a lot of their games, so I cannot comment saying `the lads are not getting the right service`. But going on from here hopefully I can provide the service that they want.
"My last competitive game was against Dunfermline on 30th December is too long to be going without playing. Come the summer I will be a player who has played quite a bit of football, all going well and ready to kick of the new season wherever that may be."
