Adam Hammill Post Rangers
Sunday, 21st Jan 2007"Today was all about settling in really, once I got a couple of good touches my confidence went high. I thought I did OK today but there is a lot more to come."
Liverpool Football Club celebrated a fine win over Chelsea this weekend but for one of the Reds playing staff the weekend was of significance for a much bigger reason. Last week, Adam Hammill was a Liverpool player looking for a loan deal that would give him some experience at a higher level, this Sunday the eighteen year old was playing for Dunfermline against Rangers in the SPL. For a young man with ambition this was just the kind of move he was looking for:-
"It happened three days ago I flew out. I have only had one full session and 45 minutes against a great team like Rangers, it was fantastic today."
For the Bootle born lad who replaced Bobby Ryan at the start of the second half, the determination that his new team mates put up on Sunday was no real surprise to him:-
"I saw Dunfermline play against Rangers in the Cup and thought they had a good bunch of players. They really really worked hard today, created good opportunities and were unfortunate not to get a point today."
He added that the performance did not really reflect the club's rightful position in the SPL, feeling that it should be much higher up the league:-
"They have some quality players and to be bottom of the league is not justice."
On a personal level Adam, who celebrates his nineteenth birthday on Thursday, is very keen to gain experience while in Scotland and encourage his boss Rafael Benitez to further extend his 'Pool contract that was only lengthened just before he went out on loan. Adam recognises that he needs to adapt, fit in with all his new team mates and subsequently help Dunfermline away from the bottom of the table:-
"Today was all about settling in really, once I got a couple of good touches my confidence went high. I thought I did OK today but there is a lot more to come. The first five or ten minutes on I did not read a couple of flick ons but once I got into the game I knew where to go then. Flick ons from Jim Hamilton and Stevie I was getting on the end of them. Hopefully we will link up well in the next game."
Once Adam had spoken to his agent and the players at Dunfermline he knew that the move to Dunfermline was the one for him. Former team mate at Liverpool was the Pars defender Calum Woods and the two lads who came through the Liverpool Football Academy together will be sharing accommodation while they are in Fife. The style of play was a bit different from that Adam was accustomed to at Anfield, he summed up Scottish football:-
"It is more direct, you work 110% but I thought we gave a good account of ourselves today."
