Stephen Kenny has healthy options
Friday, 19th Jan 2007Manager happy with a good problem of competition for starting places.
For the first time since his arrival in November, Manager Stephen Kenny is faced with a serious choice in team selection. Players like Jim McIntyre and Scott Muirhead are back in contention after being out through injury and the three suspended players from last week, Phil McGuire, Gary Mason and Jim Hamilton are also available for the return of Rangers.
The gaffer is also hopefully that Scott Wilson will recovered from a calf strain and Stephen Simmons from a thigh strain in time to face Walter Smith's troops. Both are doubtful but will face late fitness tests. Darren Young is suspended, Souleymane Bamba (groin) is sidelined and Mark Burchill might be back in the running by next weekend.
New signings Jim O'Brien, Bobby Ryan and Adam Hammill will all be keen to play against Rangers so the Manager was very pleased that a bit of competition for starting places has been created and he commented:-
"We can't really worry about Rangers. We didn't the last time and we're not going to this time either.
"They have good players, that's well documented, and they had a good win last week, but we're just concerned about ourselves and we're concentrating on improving our own performance. It's a different game again. We went out with a positive attitude and created quite a few chances and took them on the day.
"Rangers hit the bar late on (as they tried) to equalise but we have to adopt the same approach, we have to try and be positive. We're not going to try and contain them, we're trying to have a go and that's the way we will approach it tactically."
Kick-off at East End Park on Sunday is at 2.00pm.
