Stephen Kenny Post Raith

Tuesday, 16th Jan 2007

"I was surprised with tonight's match, I wasn't expecting such a big attendance. We thought there would be nobody here.

Stephen Kenny was pleased to have the Fife Cup Semi Final against Raith Rovers on Tuesday night admitting it was a useful exercise:-

"I was surprised with tonight's match, I wasn't expecting such a big attendance. We thought there would be nobody here. I reminded the lads at the penalty shoot out that we had to win the game to finish it off.

"There are some big positives to take from the game; Jim McIntyre playing, Iain Williamson getting the goal and then a couple of players getting matches under their belt - players who have been out for a while like Jamie McCunnie and Dorus de Vries. One or two other players needed a match, so it served a purpose. With all the injuries to central defenders it was a chance for young players to come in. We had a very young back four; Derek Howie, Neil Fenwick and Clark Kay alongside Calum Woods. Iain Williamson and Calum Smith are also under 19 players."

Two Dunfermline goals were particularly pleasing, the first taken by 19 year old, Williamson:-

"He was a central midfield player and he has only recently become a forward. He hasn't played up front that much."

There was also a Jim McIntyre goal in the first minute of the second half, the Manager had seen him play previously for Dundee United and even for Reading a few years ago, but added "Jim McIntyre coming back was a big boost for us. He is like a new signing."
