Phil McGuire Post Rangers
Sunday, 7th Jan 2007"It is the wee kick start that we need but there is no need next week going fallling flat on our face. We will enjoy today and tonight.
After weeks of improvement Tennents Man of the Match, Phil McGuire said that the Dunfermline team finally clicked :-
"Today we got the result we deserved. Hopefully we have not used all our goals up but we took our chances. We scored first for the first time this season and although Rangers made it difficult in the end but I don't think anybody could grudge us the victory at the end of the day.
"It is the wee kick start that we need but there is no need next week going fallling flat on our face. We will enjoy today and tonight. This is for the players and backroom staff, the club as a whole and the city. It is a great result for everybody concerned, hopefully we can take that into next week now."
Predictably asked if he thought the turmoil at Rangers had encouraged his side:-
"We have our own problems at the moment, we are bottom of the league. Today was a distraction from the league. It was a cup game, we were underdogs albeit we were at home. It was important to get the result.
"Early on in the game there was a header at the back post that might have been a penalty to be fair but those kind of things went against us in the last few weeks but today they went for us. We went up the park and scored so hopefully our luck has changed.
"Jim O'Brien is a good wee player he gave us a great outlet. Today we played with two natural wingers and I think it showed the difference. When we got the ball out to them they caused the Rangers defence problems. There were a lot of corners and free kicks that always put pressure on Rangers team. He is a good young player.2
If the team can reproduce the same kind of form next Saturday at Falkirk, it will have to be without Phil McGuire:-
"I am suspended next week which is unfortunate but we have got to go out the same, work hard and hopefully get the right result."
