Barrowman strikes first

"All the forwards are in competition to see who is playing and that is a good thing, it keeps you on your toes and if you are in that team then you need to make sure that you keep your jersey.

Strikers both score at Annan

Having scored when he played at Galabank in pre season while with Kilmarnock five years ago, Andy Barrowman kept up his record of scoring at Annan every time he has visited there.

"It was my first start and first goal. As a striker it is good to get off the mark early doors, get a wee bit of confidence and hopefully there is more to come."

The 26 year old who joined the Pars from Ross County for the start of the 2011-12 admitted that there had been numerous chances for the Dunfermline strikers and he felt robbed of a second after being ruled off for offside in the follow up from a corner kick.

"The one that was chalked off - there is no way I was offside - it was a sidewards pass but the ref has given it. I was disappointed with a header in the first half as well and should have hit the targetl."

Andy's 17th minute goal was a straight forward header on a Joe Cardle corner but he is keen to score more no matter who is paired with him upfront. He is likely to have Andy Kirk, Steven McDougall, Liam Buchanan and even Martin Hardie last Monday, up along side him. The Pars striking partnership is something he hopes to be part of.

"That just comes with games and the experience of playing with each another. Me and Kirkie linked up a few times today. In pre season we have been playing games together and there are signs that we could become a good partnership. All the forwards are in competition to see who is playing and that is a good thing, it keeps you on your toes and if you are in that team then you need to make sure that you keep your jersey."

Strikers need to be fed and Andy was extremely complimentary of the service provided by Cardle in the game at Annan:-

"Wee Joe's deliveries were terrific; as a forward I thrive on that. Hopefully he can give us plenty more during the season."

So after coming on as a sub against St Mirren and playing the full 90 minutes at Annan, Andy is hoping for a start on Saturday against one of his former clubs, Inverness Caley Thistle. Their manager Terry Butcher signed Andy from Ross County in 2008 after the player had hit 29 goals in the Dingwall side's Second Division title winning season. Andy who was at Rangers as a youth and has experience of ten different clubs at senior level considers his move to Dunfermline has been a good one for him.

"It is pretty similar in a lot of ways to Ross County in terms of the team spirit; boys are really close and it is one of the best team spirits I have been involved in. When you see the structure of the club, it is a big club, probably a bigger club than I thought it was before I came here.

"I am enjoying it, it is great and good to finally get the real games going. Pre season games serve a purpose but you can't beat the cut throat of needing to win games."

The Scottish Communities League Cup tie was a welcome filler since the SPL match against Celtic was postponed to allow Neil Lennon's men to take in the Dublin Super Cup this weekend. Andy added:-

"It would have been a good occasion and one of the fixtures you really look out for when the fixtures are announced but we were down at Annan; we have come here and got the result and are in the next round of the cup."
