Comments of Jim McIntrye and Harry Cairney

Dugout at Galabank

Jim McIntyre was happy with the win over Annan Athletic and to be in the draw on Tuesday lunchtime in Dingwall of the Scottish Communities League Cup:-

"I am pleased that we are in the next round of the Cup, that is what your aim is. It is never easy in these games on what was a sticky pitch with long grass.

"In the first half we could have been three or four goals up, we created some great opportunities but never put them away. The game should have been over by half time but credit to Annan, they scored a great goal themselves and got a lift.

"Then we got dragged into a bit of fighting instead of getting the ball down and playing. We spoke about that at half time and in the second half we passed the ball far better and created good opportunities. How the referee gave that second half one offside I will never know, but some you get and some you don't."

Andy Kirk and Andy Barrowman

The Manager had his two strikers to thank for scoring the goals that took Dunfermline into the second round.

"It was important to get them off the mark and I thought Barrowman was possibly our most stand out player today. He did very well, linked the play well and showed good strong strength in the air."

Responding to a comment suggesting that Joe Cardle had been electric, Macca said:-

"That is the way he is, some days he is like that.and he can be very difficult to handle. He put in some fabulous deliveries today."

Annan Manager Harry Cairney was pleased with his team's performance, especially in the first half when they had put Dunfermline under a bit of pressure.

"We had some decent chances, don't get me wrong, they had as well. It was a very open game in the first half with chances being created at both ends. We did well against a full time Premier League side and if we can perform like that throughout the rest of the season I will be happy with that."

Haiving equalised in 21 minutes and with a superb individual goal from their Man of the Match, David Cox, the Annan Manager had hoped to put more pressure on the visitors.

Annan Athletic v Dunfermline

"Big Sean (O'Connor) did have a couple of chances, they just didn't fall right for him."

"We can only do our best and I think all the guys did their best today, they put in a good shift and worked really hard. We were unlucky with Ian Harty's overhead effort but they had a player on the line and that's why you put a defender on the line.

"In the second half, once they went ahead they looked more comfortable, knocked the ball about and we didn't create too much at that point. Maybe fitness was a factor but they are in the SPL and we are in the Third Division."
