Woods a Townie now
Wednesday, 20th Jul 2011"It was great to come back again and Dunfermline were very good. They played really well and with a couple of new players in looked really sharp. I think they will do well this season.
After leaving Dunfermline for Huddersfield Town in the close season, Calum Woods was genuinely delighted to be back at East End Park to make his debut for his new club.
"It is good to come and get a good run out in a pre season game to get some fitness in. I went over on my ankle during pre season and then had a slight thigh problem but it felt good tonight. It was good to get some fitness in."
A new experience to play against players that he knew so well, Calum described that as "weird" but were his former team mates as good as he thought they were?
"It was great to come back again and Dunfermline were very good. They played really well and with a couple of new players in looked really sharp. I think they will do well this season.
"I really enjoyed playing against some good friends and the fans have been brilliant since I came to Dunfermline so it was really nice to get that reception tonight."
Calum has not really had a chance to miss Dunfermline much since he only went south for the start of pre season, a couple of weeks ago. He will be staying in Huddersfield but of course is only 50 minutes away from home in Liverpool.
There was a laugh from the 24 year old when it was pointed out that he missed out of playing against his good pal Joe Cardle by four minutes:-
"It would have been good to have played against him but I was just happy to get a good run out in those 55 minutes. I have had a couple of injuries already and obviously you don't want to arrive at a new team with injuries."
Huddersfield Town now find themselves with plenty of local derbies in the season ahead. Both Sheffield teams, Notts County, Chesterfield and Scunthorpe will all have derby feels to them but Calum will also be faced with the long trips to Bournemouth and Yeovil Town in Football League One:-
"It will be nice to experience a few different grounds because I have been up in Scotland a long time, so I am looking forward to a new challenge."
He wasn't to be drawn into criticising the Scottish venues that he will miss:-
"I enjoyed them all really, it was all good experience in Scotland. You realise though how lucky you are when you will be playing at Huddersfield but even East End is a brilliant place to play."
Calum is optimistic for Dunfermline's prospects, he thought that they will do well and wished his old mates well for the coming season. As for Huddersfield they kick off their league campaign at home to Bury on Saturday 6th August and its 31st March before he plays at the nearest point to Scotland, Carlisle, but Dunfermline should be away to Dundee United that day. Nevertheless there will be a good number of Pars fans looking out for Huddersfield Town results this season. Thanks and all the very best Calum.
