Greg Ross Post Dundee
Sunday, 4th Jan 2009"There are still 17 games to go. If we can get a run together we will be there or thereabouts."
Greg Ross was disappointed as any Pars player after Saturday's defeat at Dundee, it was just not the kind of start that to the New Year that was intended. He told the website:-
"After the game on Tuesday we were hoping to come up here and start a wee run of a few games. If we had won we would have put pressure on St Johnstone but it wasn't to be. A win today would have put us just two points behind with them to play again. There are still 17 games to go. If we can get a run together we will be there or thereabouts."
Things went pear shaped after Dundee captain Eric Paton sent his 67th minute free kick past Paul Gallacher to score the only goal of the game.
"The player cut inside and cut away from Steven Bell. It was the kind of free kick where you would say if it didn't go in, it was a good foul because he didn't get a shot in. It is just unfortunate that the boy stepped up and put it in the top corner. Gall had no chance with it. We are disappointed that we didn't create enough chances to get the goals that would have won the game. We had a lot of pressure but creating clear cut chances is something that we are going to have to work on."
The 21 year old who started his 63rd match for Dunfermline on Saturday, agreed that the side missed the ill Graham Bayne big time:-
"He has been vital to the way we have been playing; he is a big target for everybody to play for and a lot of our play goes through him. Having said that we had two boys who have great movement today, we were looking to get the ball forward and the ball down the channels and getting in behind.
"It didn't really happen for us enough, we didn't give them the service so we can't really blame it on that. Yes, their defence played well it's just that we didn't play well enough in the final third."
Greg came through the youth system at Dunfermline at the same time as Dundee central defender Craig McKeown who played a vital role in denying the Pars in that final third:-
"He just never got a chance at Dunfermline but went away and did well at Clyde. Now he is getting his chance with Dundee and he did well today."
