Burchill out to make a mark

Saturday, 26th Jan 2008

"Nobody was more disappointed than me to miss the penalty last week because I have no doubt in my mind that we would have gone on to win the game.

Mark Burchill has said that he would be very confident to take the Pars next penalty kick even though he missed one against St Johnstone last Saturday. Now that Stephen Glass has returned to the team though he might not get another chance for some time, Mark recalled last Saturday's miss:-

"Nobody was more disappointed than me to miss the penalty last week because I have no doubt in my mind that we would have gone on to win the game. We were playing really well and it would have been a big scalp to take the three points off St Johnstone and cut the gap down to one point.

"Unfortunately I never scored but that's football. Every player in the dressing room was devastated at the end of the game that it went back to seven points. We are not going to stop believing, it is seven points behind St Johnstone but we are going to try and win the next few games to put the pressure on again. We have Hamilton again in a few weeks, you never know in football we will just have to wait and see."

Kevin Harper feels that the team should not be relying on Mark Burchill to score the goals all the time:-

"I think we've got to score goals from other places and that's the most disappointing thing about this season? we've not scored that many goals and the midfielders haven't scored that many goals. That's one of the things we probably need to rectify."

Scott Thomson is hoping the team can quickly put Tuesday night's disappointment at exiting the Scottish Cup behind them:-

"In our last two matches we played some of our best football of the season. We have just failed to take our chances. It is bitterly disappointing to be out of the Cup because we have had some good runs in the tournament in recent years.

"We have to get over the Partick defeat quickly and make ourselves harder to beat again. We were on a decent run until our last two matches. If we start taking the chances we are making, and everything else clicks, somebody is going to get a doing."

Jim McIntyre stressed that there is still plenty to play for:-

"They're playing for their professionalism, their pride and their contracts. You never know who's in the stand watching. You've always got to be playing for your professional pride.

"If we stay in this division, the budget will be severely cut so that'll mean cuts all round. But at the minute we're just focusing on the games. At the end of the day I've not made decisions about people yet.

"All we're concerned about is taking each game at a time and winning. We had a good run there but we've lost the last two. It's up to the players to show some character and to bounce back from the home defeat against St Johnstone."
