Scott Thomson reflected on how important it was to score the first goal in the First Division:-
"We had numerous chances and the missed penalty. Sometimes it comes back to haunt you when you miss so many chances and that's what happened.
"When you go a goal up as we have done on numerous occasions ourselves, like against Morton down there, they had something to defend after getting a goal up. To be fair to St Johnstone they defended the edge of their box very well and got a wee bit of 'lady luck' as well.
"We were the better team for the first 20 minutes easily then they started to come into it, getting a wee lift because we have not taken our chances. They think 'this could maybe be our day today'. I had asked the ref how long there was to go and he said five minutes till half time. You hope to go in at nil nil and come out flying in the second half. We did that and got off to another good start but it was a terrible time to lose a goal. There is not a good time to lose a goal but just before half time to lose a goal is a killer blow."
In the closing minutes Scott was on the left side of the opposition penalty box to cut back a ball that might have resulted in Dunfermline being awarded a second penalty.
"A few of the boys said that it looked like the guy had a hold of Macca and pulled him down to the ground. When I crossed it for him I had two men in front of me and I couldn't see anything. A few of them said it might have been a penalty but a few said it wasn't."
Had the penalty been given did Scott think that Mark Burchill would have been given another crack from the spot:-
"I wouldn't think so, but you never know. It is a confidence thing, I remember missing one against Niemi - it was a good few years ago now - but I went back up and took another couple. That was the only penalty I missed in my senior career.
"It is a confidence thing, whoever is confident on the day.I asked who was on the pens yesterday and Mark Burchill put his hand up and said I'll take them. With the way he has been scoring and the way he has been playing we thought no problem. It is just one of those things. He said he just changed his mind at the last second and lifted it over. That is exactly the way I missed the one against Niemi. I had made up mind to try and curl it into one side and changed my mind and opened up and he saved it. Don't change your mind definitely."
Scott was played at right back, he explained how that came about:-
"Macca pulled me to the side and he said that he wouldn't ask Jamie Harris to play there and I wouldn't ask Scott Wilson to play there but I would ask you because you had played all the different positions.Yes I have had a wee run at centre half and definitely enjoyed it but when you get to my stage in your career you just want to play.He asked me to do a job at right back and I was happy to play since Calum Woods was suspended."
