Stephen Kenny Post St Mirren
Saturday, 16th Dec 2006We were worthy of a draw. I am not saying that we deserved to win and I am not saying they did.
Manager Stephen Kenny claimed that his side not ecstatic with their point from a 0-0 draw:-
"I am very pleased with the commitment and effort of the players. From that point of view that is encouraging. There was a couple of players coming back in for their first game today; Darren Young has been out for a while and played in an unorthidox position. He did that with tremendous attittude. Phil McGuire and was very solid for us at the back.
"We could not claim that we were free flowing and past in brilliantly because we didn't. What we did do was defend very well and worked really hard for each other. There was a collective spirit about the whole team with everyone trying their utmost for each other.
"Once you have that, it gives you the starting point. We were worthy of a draw. I am not saying that we deserved to win and I am not saying they did. What I am saying is that there were probably a couple of chances and that was it either end.
"The way we played going forward and our passing was improving and our general play can improve again. last week's performance against Celtic was encouraging. Today the effort and commitment of the players was encouraging. We can take it on from there and get a bit better gradually hopefully.
"We have been conceding some soft goals and that has been the common theme throughout the season apparently. So from 21 games in all competitions that is only the second clean sheet of the season (third if you include Ayr in the CIS Cup). Statistics can be misleading but that one isn't you know. It is very important to keep a clean sheet.
"Psychologically, apart from the fact that we are a point nearer, we have 19 games left and every week people say it is a must-win game. So that is 19 must-win games, from that point of view it was a good effort. You have to put it in perspective; a 0-0 draw but we kept a clean sheet and that is positive."
Stephen Kenny confirmed that Mark Burchill might now be out for two or three weeks with a thigh strain.
