Dorus de Vries Post Aberdeen

Sunday, 26th Nov 2006

"We train harder and we train more. I think eventually that will do the team good. I still have enough belief in the squad so I am not

The Dunfermline goalkeeper gave his opinions on the Aberdeen match:-

"We could have beaten Aberdeen but unfortunately we lost the game. In the first half it looked like a typical 0-0 game with not many chances. Aberdeen had one big chance in the first half, a header and we had a chance when Scotty Muirhead went through the middle on to a good pass from Freddie Daquin. Those were the only chances.

"When we went in at half time we still thought that we could beat them, we can have them, but then things happen that you don't expect normally. We went behind 1-0 to an unfortunate mistake and then the second one as well. 3-0 is unbelievable."

Dorus de Vries defended Greg Shields slip up to let Aberdeen in for their opening goal:-

"He is the type of player I have never even seen make a mistake in training; he is a quality player. So sometimes it happens that is why I cannot be upset with him because he always gives 150%. He rarely makes mistakes, there is nothing you can do about it."

Dorus said that Greg had spent some time after the match just thinking through what had gone wrong:-

"You need to watch on TV at ease and then give a good judgement. It was bad for us but at 1-0 we had the opportunity to get one back in the game. We have done that with our three home wins. 1-0 down yet we beat our opponents. That is what we tried to do against Aberdeen but then the second goal came and it was almost impossible to come back in the game."

Dorus dismissed the idea that impossible described the club's predicament at the foot of the SPL table:-

"No, not at all because we have to believe in our squad, especially with the new Manager coming in. There is new fresh air and new hope and the Manager has to sell the line as well. He is already trying to make a difference in the team and show we can make attacking football. We train harder and we train more. I think eventually that will do the team good. I still have enough belief in the squad so I am not nervous at all.

"We are training more specific on games. Eleven against eleven so everybody knows exactly what he is doing in a game. That is really positive and we train twice a day that is on the positive side as well. We need to grow as a team."
