At the above fixture, East End Park was witness to a very unwelcome and potentially dangerous incident. During the second half, a young fan in the North West Stand, was so aggrieved at the performance of the Assistant Referee, he took it upon himself to throw a missile at the gentleman in question. Fortunately for the Club, the missile was no more than a pie which did not make contact. However the ramifications for Dunfermline Athletic are no less frightening as the SFA and SPL can, and may, impose a variety of sanctions for our failure to control the crowd. The young man was immediately identified by the police and stewards, was arrested and ejected from the stadium. We would like to reiterate that DAFC will not tolerate such behaviour and will take all necessary steps to eradicate violent conduct, threatening behaviour and anti-social attitudes in and around East End Park and any other stadium entertaining our staff and players.
The "fan" has since been interviewed at East End Park and has had his season ticket withdrawn. He will not be visiting the North West Stand for the remainder of this season. He may also be the subject of a criminal charge, but this is a matter for Fife Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service and as such outside our jurisdiction. The young man has now apologised for the regrettable incident and we do consider his remorse to be genuine; however we cannot allow such unwarranted and unacceptable behaviour to go unpunished and therefore the term ban will be applicable.
