Gary Mason Post Hearts

Saturday, 28th Oct 2006

The boys right from the back, everyone just got back to basics after a thumping against Hibs. That is working hard and working hard brings performances.

"It is absolutely brilliant after a bad performance.  The boys have shown pride in ourselves and I think that is most important, every one of us did a magnificent job at Tynecastle and the win was well deserved.

"It wasn't a nice week seeing the state that Jim Leishman was in. That maybe had a wee effect as well - look lads go out and do us proud, do the fans proud.  When you saw Leish during the week - we had to try and get that out of our system as quickly as possible.  At the end of the day it shows you how much passion he has got for the club.

"It is a great draw at the end of the day and Big Toddy has done really well to clear one off the line.  He just stuck his head there and it just shows how the game went.  He is still dizzy.

"It is not an easy place to come but we have made it more difficult for them and that showed.  The boys right from the back, everyone just got back to basics after a thumping against Hibs. That is working hard and working hard brings performances.  We must keep doing that.  I am always saying that with the squad we have we should be doing better than we are."

The draw at Tynecastle came after Gary was handed a slightly different role than one is accustomed to see him in.  He commented on his job on the right side of midfield:-

"It was just to freshen things up. I have enough fitness to get up and down, that was a reason for doing that. Simmy (Stephen Simmons) has come back in and Daz (Darren Young) was marking Hartley.  He did a magnificent job on him.  Simmy was really good.  It freshened things up with a wee change that didn't do us any harm.

"It helped with the formation that they were playing because sometime we had two on one with me and Jamie (McCunnie).  When it is like that it is ideal because you can get width and get balls in to take advantage of having big Hammy there."

Like everyone Gary was sad that the team had lost such a silly goal as early as the 12th minute:-

"I don't know what happened it all happened that quick.  It seemed to skid off the surface and Roddy was in two minds.  From our perspective it is not a good goal to lose. We stuck at it and didn't let our heads go down like we did against Hibs.  It showed and we got back into the game.

"I couldn't believe the start we made to the second half and we went on with Burchy having a wee chance.  We limited Hearts chances, it is not easy there.  Shieldsie looked back to his best, the full backs and Greg (Ross) when he came on for Jamie to do himself no harm at all. Hopefully we can kick on from that."
