"After Monday we had to do something. That was probably the lowest we could go.
"The boys have to take major credit out of the game today because they battled their corner and could have snatched it. Coming to Tynecastle is a hard place and you will always take a point."
Hammy celebrates his first goal for Dunfermline, three minutes into the second half
Hammy had claimed that the disallowed goal was the wrong decision, he was unconvincing when he added:-
"I have never been offside in my life! It was one of those that came across and I put it in the net to debate after that. The linesman was looking right across it.
"It is disappointing but we cannot put our finger it. We have had performances that took a point off Rangers at East End and then come here and get a point. We gave as good as we got and it would be good if we could perform like that every week. We wouldn't be in the position that we are.
"We need to play like that every week. The new manager will come in, this week next week whenever. It is a point that takes us off the bottom of the league. There is a big derby next week and Falkirk had a big result today so it will be difficult."
Asked if the departure of Jim Leishman had driven the team on at Tynecastle?
"It is not nice when a manager leaves his job. Jim Leishman is Mr Dunfermline as everybody knows and it was not nice on Thursday when he walked in and told us. He is a very emotional person and it was hard to see him being like that. Probably I stood up for him but we have to do it for ourselvers as well."
Jim felt that effect was greater than anything that had come out of Tynecastle ahead of the match:-
"The boys took nothing to do with it. Given the quotes he comes out with, can anybody be surprised when he comes out with things like that? No. We just took it with a pinch of salt, got on with the game and prepared for it. It is his team and he can do whatever he wants."
