U19s v Hibernian
Friday, 27th Oct 2006Hibs give Pars lesson in taking chances as Stewart is beaten six times.
DUNFERMLINE 0 HIBS 6
Hibs convincingly won this U19 League match played on heavy ground at the Fleet Ground, Rosyth on Friday afternoon but the scoreline does not reflect that the home side had their chances. Sadly the Pars failed to take any of them whilst their Edinburgh visitors had no problems in hitting the net.
The first goal went in on 10 minutes when a swift break caught Dunfermline out. Athletic's Charlie Bradshaw hooked a shot over the bar from 8 yards and Calum Smith was through on the keeper only to see his effort deflected away. Pars keeper, Darren Stewart, had a good save and Hibs hit the bar before they doubled their advantage in 24 minutes.
Another goal soon slipped in when poor Pars marking at a free kick allowed an opponent to nip in and net the third. Before the interval Smith squared to the well positioned Alan McDonough but he screwed his shot wide with an open goal beckoning.
The fourth goal was a consequence of losing possession in the middle of the park at the start of the second half and despite Stewart making a good save Hibs netted as the ball broke.
Smith forced the Hibs keeper to save his useful header but it was Hibs who added to the goals tally. A poor kick from Stewart meant that Hibs used their pace to get on to the ball and score number five.
McDonough had a shot from the edge of the box saved comfortably and then another attempt from the same player was cleared off the line. Paddy Halpin launched one on target but that was deflected wide. Just when it was looking a little more promising for Dunfermline, Hibs broke to grab a sixth with 11 minutes remaining and although Davie Muir had the ball in the net for Dunfermline, the offside decision went against him and there were to be no Pars goals.
Hibs were more direct and stronger than Hamish French's side and as the scores suggests they used their chances to better effect.
