Joe Cardle Post St Mirren
Saturday, 24th Mar 2012"It was not one of the most glorious goals but a goal is a goal and another on my tally.
Joe Cardle said that his gaffer's desire for his team to get right back into the game as soon as they could in the second half worked perfectly:-
"I am happy with the referee's decision to allow play to continue. I saw the ball coming over and just went for the ball without seeing what had happened to Liam Buchanan. It was not one of the most glorious goals but a goal is a goal and another on my tally. I am happy with that, even though it is just the one point. It could go all the way to the end of the season and that point could be crucial for us. We have to take it, Hibs lost so it is another point back."
The Manager's team talk at half time appeared to get instant reaction as Joe's seventh goal of the season levelled the match just 33 seconds into the second half.
"He wanted me more on the ball because I was coming inside a lot more than normal. So it was to get me on the ball and get out wide. That is what happened in the second half, we got more on the ball and got me to get at the defenders. I think it worked for us even though it was a very open game."
Joe was not surprised by the dressing down the players had taken at the break:-
"He wants us winning games and that is why he is here to help us stay in this league. Even though we didn't get the second goal, we are happy with the one point. Changes help players and I think that's what's happened this week. We have only had a couple of days training with the new manager but I think it has worked for the boys.
"On Thursday and Friday there was differences in training, you might have seen that in the second half towards the end that the boys were working for each other. There was determination and we were all working to stay in the SPL this season.
"We were unlucky with a couple of chances; there were a couple of corners towards the end where there was a scramble but it didn't really come off for us. We were happy with the team ethic and we need to keep it going now towards the end of the season."
Only three points behind Hibs with seven games left, Joe singled out the final match against Hibs as being crucial.
"They are all World Cup Finals for us now; that's one out of the way now and we didn't get the three points that we wanted. Hopefully we can take as many points as possible."
