Young plays Captain's Role

Everyone fancied Kilmarnock but we went into the game confident enough

Despite being captain at Aberdeen Darren Young has never led out Dunfermline in any of his 111 Pars appearances since joining from the Dons in 2003. The 27 year old had good reason to be pleased with his leadership against Kilmarnock:-

""It has been a while back in my Aberdeen days but it is a real honour. It was great to get our first victory of the season and a wee bonus getting a goal as well while wearing the captain's armband. The goal got us back in it."

Darrren's three goals last season came in a five week spell after getting off the mark on Boxing Day against Rangers but injury put him out in February and this was only his third start of the season.

"Me and Gary Mason have been getting a bit of stick for not scoring many goals so it was nice to get a goal a piece today and then Stevie Crawford scores a wonder goal."

The arrival of Hamilton and Crawford allows a striking partnership to be formed and Darren knows that has been a problem:-

"We have been missing strikers all season and although Andy Tod has been brilliant for us up front. The manager has brought the two of them in and they have combined well in training all week.

"We still went into the game as underdogs, everyone fancied Kilmarnock but we went into the game confident enough. Once we start scoring goals again it is going to be hard on the Manager to pick a team because he will have more options with us all fighting for our places.

"Kilmarnock did well and it was hard to get yourself going but once we got the equaliser and got into the game we probably deserved the win.

"It was just hard work, we got stuck in about it and got the reward for the effort.

"There was a penalty claim then Mason had a shot that was saved then got it back and it finally went in. Had that not gone in then it might have been a penalty but he got the goal and all credit to him."
