Roddy McKenzie Post Falkirk
Monday, 7th Aug 2006"We have only played one game home and away but we have a big game next that the boys will be looking forward to.
"We probably didn't play as well as we thought we might have done. We created some decent chances in the game and we lost a bad goal from a corner when somebody was never picked up. If we could have taken one of the chances then we might have been able to go on and win the game.
"If you look at the bigger picture, we did not even play that well. It wasn't a great day.
"If you lose a goal from a corner you always have to ask questions of your defenders; until we stop doing that and make sure we pick everyone up. We never get free headers in the box do we?
"The players are disappointed and the best thing is to talk about it and get everything out in the open about where we went wrong in the game. It shows that we care and that we are all out for the same goal. We came out with a some ideas but we just didn't put the ball in the net at the right time. That could have made a difference; I felt that if we had scored in the first half from two or three really good chances. Coming away from home and creating those chances - if you put two of them in the net then you are going to win more games than you are going to lose. On another day, if we had taken those chances we could have won the game, we didn't. We have got to understand why we didn't win the game and move on."
The former Hearts and Livingston player, who will be 31 on Tuesday, is confident that his new team is beginning to take shape and can look forward to Sunday's game at home to Rangers:-
"We look OK; it is just everybody getting to know each other, their strengths and weaknesses and trying to bed in the new players. We have to see how different people play, likes and dislikes. We just have to work at each other's game. We have only played one game home and away but we have a big game next that the boys will be looking forward to.
"We have a week of training to do before we get going again next week. We will get some things that the manager wants to work on."
Roddy has played 13 times against the Gers and his record is won one, drawn three, lost nine. His only shut out was in the Livingston colours in the 0-0 draw in October 2003 and his win was in his first match against them in May 1997 when Hearts defeated a Rangers side that included one Greg Shields, by 3-1.
"They are hard games, you have to defend right and take your chances when you get them. You are not going to create many chances but they do allow you to play with the ball. If you keep good possession and create chances you are always going to have chances to win the games. Possibly if you watched Dundee United against them, they probably defended well and when they got the ball they used wisely. There is no point in having possession and just kicking it away."
