Greg Shields Post Hearts

Sunday, 30th Jul 2006

We gave them far too much space in the first half they managed to get down the sides and play passes in midfield. In the second half I don't think they did that much.

"It was like the first game of last season when we drew one each with Hibs, we were in control of the game and we through it away. We gave ourselves a chance today. I didn't think the first half was our best performance, maybe a few of us out there never believed that we could beat Hearts after their highs of last season. Robbo made it clear at half time to a few of the players that they needed to start doing it.

"We stepped up and got tighter in the second half. We gave them far too much space in the first half they managed to get down the sides and play passes in midfield. In the second half I don't think they did that much. Everybody stepped up and got tighter to their men.

"We got a good goal. We have been working on set pieces in training all week. For us to score from a set piece was unheard of last year, we can maybe take a positive out of that"

Having snatched the equaliser in 62 minutes Dunfermline conceded a second goal fourteen minutes later:-

"The way the final goal was scored was questionable, I personally thought it was a free kick. I think he won the ball but the ball broke and big Bamba stuck his leg out. The boy has fallen as well and with foreigners nowadays that is what you get, especially out there. It was proven more than once that those things were going on that probably wouldn't have happened if it had been a Scottish player.

"But we got on with it. The free kick was there to defend and it came off the bar. Pospisal kicked it into the ground and the questionable was questionable from Dunfermline's point of view. It was Berra who scored, he definitely touched it and it went in. Whether Berra was offside or not? I was the last man; the spare man on the free kick so I thought he was, it will be interesting to see if it was a goal, but the goal stood. There was nothing we could do.

"That's a point down from last year and that's disappointing because we felt, especially with Freddie's chance - when that happens to us, the other team scores. I am not putting any blame on Freddie, Freddie is a right winger playing centre forward but it was a great opportunity. I was thinking at the back, if that had gone in it would have eased so much pressure off of us. But it wasn't to be and it makes next week even bigger now.

"We have lost two goals at home and that means we need the strikers to score three goals. We battled well in the second half, but I don't think we played well. we got up and at them. Big Toddy came on and did really well filling in for Noel Whelan. He gave us aerial presence against Pressley and Berra and gave us a few chances. Freddie had a good chance first half and to broke to Simmons right after it.

"Maybe a lot of folk will look at that game and say 'they have been a little unfortunate today' but we have been unfortunate for two and a half years now. I'd like to see the luck come our way in the next couple of weeks, but it just makes next week's game (v Falkirk away) all the more important. We have never lost at the Falkirk Stadium, it has been a good ground for us. Everybody's thoughts are on next week and we have to kick on ."
