Stephen Simmons Post Hearts
Saturday, 29th Jul 2006"We should have won it. I said before the game anything but three points would be disappointing. I think we threw away three points there, everybody is gutted. We need to put things right for next week.
"I am definitely claiming the goal, I got in there at the back post. That is what we worked on in training; if I wasn't there I would have been slaughtered for it but I managed to get a wee touch on it. A wee deflection into the net and I will claim that no bother."
Dunfermline might have gone into a 2-1 lead had a 72nd minute chance been taken by Daquin.
"We were having a word with Freddie saying that he needs to make the goalkeeper work. It is alright saying that when you are not through on goal. He was unlucky but we are not blaming Freddie, we should have chipped in and maybe stopped them scoring. It was definitely a turning point because we might have gone on and won the game if he had put it in the net."
Could this be a return of the misfortune that accompanied the Pars last season?
"That is what we have said; we mustn't start like we did last year. We can take a lot of positives from that game today, Hearts were second in the league, qualified for Europe and won the Cup. If we can play especially like we did in the second half we will be happy with ourselves. It doesn't matter to us who tips us to go down, we don't change anything, we just go out there and try and win every game."
