Leishman post West Brom
Wednesday, 26th Jul 2006"The best thing about it is, that's ten minutes after the game and nobody is saying that they are injured! We kept our shape well and we tried one or two things."
There was a touch of relief as Leish joked- "The best thing about it is, that's ten minutes after the game and nobody is saying that they are injured! We kept our shape well and we tried one or two things. The good thing is that hopefully we will have three or four players back on Thursday when we work on Saturday's game."
Ruling out Jim McIntyre, Scott Morrison and Darren Young, the Pars gaffer said:-
"Mark Burchill, Jamie McCunnie, Andrew Tod and Aaron Labonte can maybe be added to the squad we had for tonight." The team against West Brom included three on trial players central defender Soulemayne Bamba and strikers Keith Shevlin and Noel Whelan, "Noel has a great presence and he holds the ball up very well. You can see he is not 100% fit but we asked him for 45 minutes and he gave us that. He got 25 on Saturday, 45 today and we will get him fit. He will be an asset when he is fit.
"Calum Woods did really well but they have had a gruelling five games since they came back; you know if I had thought we'd have had as many injuries, I wouldn't have played so many games. Trialist Keith Shevlin; we phoned him yesterday to come in and he did OK. Bamba does one or two small things that we will have to work on but he got stronger as the game went on. If we take him we will have to work on one or two defensive things. He is a strong lad with great potential."
Jim Leishman blamed the media for connecting with Marvin Andrews with the Pars pointing his finger at a well known reporter in the huddle around him after the match, but did add in all seriousness, "he is the type of person who would be a good addition to the squad but it is all about budgets these days."
Looking ahead to the next opposition - Heart of Midlothian - Jim said:-
"It will be a real hard game but you have got to play them sometime. Great, we will get a capacity crowd and we will get a wee rest now until Saturday and I am looking forward to it especially if we can get some freshness. I am still looking for two players, whether I will get them by Saturday or not I am not 100% sure. If we can add these two players it would help a bit and if we will have players coming to fitness. Scott Thomson got his operation on Saturday; it was a success and apart from one or two longer term injuries we will have a decent enough squad."
Some players will be leaving to make room for the new faces;-
"Bryn Halliwell is looking for another club right now. My two goalkeepers are Roddy McKenzie and Dorus de Vries - they will be playing for the jersey."
The boss also confirmed that although goalkeeper Sean Murdoch had been given a new deal with the Pars he would be returning to Forfar Athletic on as season long loan.
