Dunfermline Reserves 2 Airdrieonians Reserves 1
Tuesday, 30th Apr 2024cinch SPFL Reserve League. Elliot Dunlop (47) 0-1: Andrew Tod (56) 1-1: Lucas Fyfe (73) 2-1:
The final Reserve match of the season was played against Airdrieonians at Ainslie Park Stadium. It was a young team in front of Max Little, Sam Young was captain and Andrew Tod played in the same side as his younger brother John.
Airdrie started with purpose and had territorial supremacy early on. Little was the first keeper called into making a save but the first real danger came in 16 minutes when Freddie Rowe advanced to smash a shot on target for the left side of the Diamonds goal. Keeper Cade Melrose did well to keep it out. That heralded a number of attempts from Rowe, Beveridge and J Tod but Airdrieonians manage to thwart them all.
In 26 minutes Beagley worked his way into the left side of the Airdrie box and when he picked out Liam Middleton the 17 year old melted his shot at goal but Melrose held. Next A Tod hit a free kick at the keeper from 27 yards out.
After the flurry of opportunities there was a distinct lack of any more for the remainder of the first half. Beagley set up Beveridge in 45th minute but the keeper dropped to his left to hold and in time added on Liam Hoggan blasted over the crossbar. After getting their game going Dunfermline had looked the better side but it’s goals that make the difference and there were none.
Half Time: Dunfermline 0 Airdrieonians 0
Daniel Bell was introduced for Mark Beveridge, and Kyle Davidson for Liam Hoggan for the second half but it was Airdrieonians who made an immediate impact. Cameron Rowley drilled a shot on target in just 30 seconds that Little did well to turn around his left hand post. Then in the second phase from the resultant corner Elliot DUNLOP dispatched the ball into the top left corner that gave the Dunfermline keeper absolutely no chance of halting. 0-1
Young was unlucky to see his header from a Beagley corner tipped over and from the next this time from the right A Tod had his shot blocked. Next chance Andrew TOD took his chance with aplomb. Receiving the ball from sub Davidson the Pars player sunk the ball low into the bottom left of the opposition net. 1-1
A Tod came extremely close from a 59th minute free kick from the left side that just escaped beyond the far post. The Fifers continued to create chances. Another A Tod free kick from the left was headed back across goal by Young but Bell sent his header wide left, then Rennie made Melrose pull off a good save and Davidson turned an inviting Rennie cut back over the bar.
Jay Snoddy, Lucas Fyfe and Leo Evans came on for Freddie Rowe, Liam Middleton and Conley Adamson in 69 minutes and within four minutes FYFE got his name on the scoresheet finishing clinically after the defence tried to halt A Tod’s progress in the penalty box. 2-1
Neither side gave up trying to find another goal. Both Beagley’s and A Tod had chances in added time but the defences held out and Dunfermline’s win meant they ended up seventh in the league.
