Dundee Reserves 1 Dunfermline Reserves 0
Tuesday, 29th Aug 2023SPFL Reserve League: Kane Ritchie-Hosler returned playing 76 minutes in this match in Dundee. Mo Sylla (30) 1-0:
The Reserve League got underway with an away fixture against Dundee played at North End Park on Tuesday afternoon. Chris Hamilton led the team out that included Paul Allan, Andrew Tod, Ben Summers and Kane Ritchie-Hosler. Sam Young who is on loan to East Stirlingshire returned for this match.
Having forced a corner within 15 seconds, the early play favoured the home side but in fifth minute Tod received a pass from Taylor Sutherland to fire the first shot of the afternoon. His effort from the left side of the box going unluckily wide of the far post.
Max Little used his feet to block a shot from Mohammed Sylla before Sutherland tested Adam Legzdins in 19 minutes with a shot from the edge of the Dundee box. Next minute the keeper made an impressive save to deny Sutherland again following a driving run from Summers set up the 17 year old.
It was a follow up on a power packed Summers effort was diverted by Sutherland to Tod but the keeper kept the Pars out. Play switched to the other end and after a couple of shots, one cleared off the line, SYLLA drilled the ball home in 30th minute. 1-0
The Fifers responded with Ritchie-Hosler rounding Murray Sweeney-Rowe to cut back a fine opportunity from the right that brought another good save to deny Sutherland.
Half time: Dundee 1 Dunfermline 0
Allan played Sutherland through for a 50th minute shot but from an angle he sent the ball agonisingly outside the left goalpost. Both keepers remained untested until in 65 minutes when Summers created an opening and smashed a low shot on target but again Legzdins dived to his left to save.
Hamilton was shown a yellow card as he stopped Charlie Reilly on the edge of the box and the former Albion Rovers player took the setplay himself, his low shot taken by Little after an adjustment. Next Summers laced a pass through for Taylor Sutherland but he dispatched his attempt wide left.
When Chris Hamilton and Ben Summers made way for a double substitution in 72 minutes, Dunfermline were playing with two sets of brothers - Tods and Sutherlands. Jake Sutherland got involved straight away forcing Luke Graham to block out his attack. Next sub, four minutes later, was 16 year old Mark Beveridge taking over from Kane Ritchie-Hosler. Returning from ankle surgery Kane looked fast and eager to get involved, great to see him back on the park.
Chances had been limited in the second half and the match ended with the only goal of the game providing a home win.
