Latest signing Kane Ritchie-Hosler talks about leaving big time clubs for Dunfermline Athletic

Following agreeing a three year contract with the club Kane Ritchie-Hosler is pleased that he will be a Dunfermline player next season and helping the team mates he joined last season to make their mark on their return to the cinch Championship. A product of the Manchester City Football Academy, Kane went on to spend four years at Glasgow Rangers but he is happy to leave behind two of the biggest sides in British football to come and play his football in West Fife.

“Obviously it is different but I wanted to play first team football and that is what I got here so it is just going to help me even further playing at a higher level. It is going to be a lot harder as we step up but I’m looking forward to the challenge for me personally to develop. I think teams will be more attacking so there could be more space and that helps me.”

The youth set up at Manchester City was everything that one would have wanted and Kane enjoyed that for ten years from the age of six. As a City fan Kane was able to return last weekend to witness the club’s title winning celebrations and his former colleague Cole Palmer playing in the 1-0 home win over Chelsea but he has fond memories of his City Football Academy days:-

“It was great. How it went from Platt Lane which was a smaller complex to the big CFA which they have now was amazing. The facilities there were unbelievable, I can’t describe it. You were very lucky to be there and doing that at Man City for ten years and then at Rangers for four years was great.”

The 20 year old really impressed while making 22 appearances at Dunfermline while on loan last season meaning his deal to make his presence permanent has been greeted joyously by Pars fans, players and management. The attraction of playing regularly in the Championship is something that Kane could not turn down though he clearly was keen to link up again with the team mates he enjoyed played alongside as the Pars raced to the League One title. So much so he is likely to become a well known figure in Scotland’s newest city:-

“There are boys who car school but I will try and stay through here, it will be much easier than travelling from Glasgow and easier to get to training and to the stadium.”

There were several occasions last season with Dunfermline when the on loan Ranger celebrated with an on loan Celtic player. Ewan Otoo arrived at the KDM Group Stadium in February but the Old Firm pair had previously met as opponents and they had played together while they were both on loan to Clyde in the latter half of the 2020-2021 season. Re-united they both played their part in the final ten matches of the Pars League One campaign. Kane would welcome another reunion:-

“We had played against each other a few times and I played a bit with him at Clyde. I knew him before that so when he came up he was familiar. I am trying to convince him to come back but it is down to him.“
