Taylor Sutherland signs for Dunfermline
Thursday, 22nd Dec 2022Another product of the Dunfermline Athletic Football Academy is signed on a professional contract.
Seventeen year old Taylor Sutherland has this week signed a eighteen month contract with Dunfermline Athletic. Taylor is an attacking player who has stood out in the Under 18s and as a result has featured in the reserves and made three first team appearances this season.
Taylor caught everyone’s attention when he scored just 131 seconds into his first team debut against Celtic B in this season’s SPFL Trust Trophy on 15th November.
Manager James McPake was delighted that Taylor accepted a professional contract with Dunfermline saying that it was a credit to Taylor and what he has achieved.
“We have all seen him now whether in the reserves or youth team, he has started once and come on for the first team. Coming in and playing games while taking time off work, we got a chance to see him and we felt that we would love to work with him. That came from Greg Shields, Dave Mackay and myself right up to board level with David Cook and Thomas Meggle - we were all keen to get him in.
“Credit to the boy, he has a dream to be a professional footballer and he has flung himself right into it. We are delighted to sign him, he trains with the first team group every day. He didn’t have the start and pre season but he has kept himself really fit.
“We are delighted to have him in and hopefully we will see a lot more of him in the first team. It is exciting for the Academy as well, they are doing really well at the minute which is good for the football club.”
Taylor and Jake, his younger brother by eleven months, have been on sparkling form for the under 18s this season. Together they provide a threatening front line. Speaking exclusively to the website Taylor described his favoured role as an attacking player on the wing or as striker:-
“That is my game - crosses, shots, link up play and goals. Me and my brother Jake have been playing together since we came to Dunfermline. The 2005s and 2006s were combined and the two of us have been playing upfront. The chemistry is there so hopefully he can kick on and get a professional contract as well.”
Turning to his own career path Taylor intimated his ambition:-
“I am hoping to get more first team experience. I have made my Scottish Cup debut (v Forfar) and hope to make another appearance as soon as possible.”
