Paul Allan hopes for surgery fix
Friday, 25th Nov 2022“We were in agreement surgery was the best thing for it."
Assistant Manager Dave Mackay confirmed that Paul Allan had surgery on Tuesday on his foot and is expected to be out for five or six weeks. Dave felt that is very disappointing for the 22 year old but said that at least it appears they have got to the root of it and solved the issue.
Manager James McPake explained last week that Paul had broken down:-
“He had an appointment with the surgeon, we weren`t quite happy with the diagnosis and the doubt that was in mind. So we gave Paul the decision. I gave him my opinion, the medical staff gave him their opinion. We were in agreement surgery was the best thing for it."
James explained that Paul’s operation was on the outside of his foot similar to the Beckham and Rooney ones:-
“I don`t know too much about the metatarsals. They put a pin or a screw in. To be fair, after that you`re six to eight weeks.”
While weighing up the decision as to go ahead with the operation, the manager last week discussed the situation:-
“If he rests it now, rest it for three weeks and then gradually bring himself back in - and what happens if you develop another setback? You`re already three to four weeks down the line anyway. My view was go get it done. Then you know you`ve got six to eight weeks and you`re back playing and your foot is stronger.
“That`s where I think the injuries I`ve had help - because when you`ve been in a position where you know that there are two sides to it you`re hoping you don`t need the surgeon and everything is OK, you`ve still got the lingering doubt that something is going to go wrong. If you get the surgery, you know `right, I`ve got five months then I`m back because I`m fixed` but it had to be Paul`s call and Paul`s decision."
