The reserves kept up their good performances in the cinch Reserve League Cup to overcome Hibernian

Kyle Macdonald, Rhys Breen and Chris Hamilton were the only senior players in a young reserve team that travelled to face Hibernian at their Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

It was Dunfermline in their maroon strips who kicked off on the AstroTurf on a fine calm afternoon for football. The visitors first attempt was from Kane Ritchie-Hosler in ninth minute but his shot was blocked. Two minutes later however Andrew Tod was taken down on the edge of the box and the Pars had a free kick on the right side. Rhys BREEN assumed the responsibility and his powerful drive penetrated the Hibs wall to find the far left of the net. 0-1

Max Little blocked an 18th minute Josh O’Conner shot from an angle on the right but it was the Fifers who would find the net next. Macdonald ran on to a long ball down the right and his low cross was met by Taylor SUTHERLAND at the near post to net with his second bite. 0-2

Playing into a low winter sun Macdonald continued to provide the greatest threat to the Hibs defence but at the break it remained 2-0 to the visitors.

Both sides made one change before the second half got underway. That saw Harris Reid replace Rhys Breen and for Hibs Rudi Molotnikov came on for Owen Hastie.

Keeper Kevin Drabowski did well to stop a Sutherland shot in 57 minutes after Tod managed to play a dangerous ball in from the right. Hibs Robbie Hamilton pumped two free kicks into the Pars box earning a corner from the second. The same player got a shot in from the corner but that went narrowly wide left.

Kane Ritchie-Hosler was caught by Kanayo Megwa and play stopped in 65 minutes for him to receive treatment. The on loan Ranger has been influential in the second half and fortunately he was able to continue.

Jake Sutherland replaced his older brother Taylor for the final twenty minutes and immediately accepted the opportunity to shoot but Darren McGregor blocked his attempt on the edge of the box.

At the other end in 79 minutes Hamilton hooked the ball clear after a neat chip into the box for sub Emmanuel Johnson to run on to. Hibs pushed for a consolation as the mist came down. Hamilton cleared another off the line while Rennie and Sutherland came close to conjuring up a third at the other end.

Although experiencing intense Hibs pressure during which they hit the crossbar Dunfermline saw the match out to take the three points.
