Chris’ derby day joy
Wednesday, 9th Nov 2022CH:- “For us it is another three points and we move on to the next game.
Dunfermline midfielder Chris Hamilton claims that his side won’t get too carried away after their hard fought win over Falkirk on Saturday:-
“It is another three points nothing more than that. The focus is already on Clyde there is no point in winning at Falkirk and losing on Saturday.”
His captain Kyle Benedictus had warned that the Pars players would need to keep calm and composed in the big derby game but when Craig Wighton scored what turned out to be the winner, Chris was celebrating just like the joyous fans who poured down on to the trackside in frenzied elation. He said apart from that moment he felt that he had shown the composure that had been prescribed:-
“It is difficult. Being a Dunfermline fan I try and take the emotion out of it a wee bit. You need to play as if it is just another game. A lot of the boys did that well in front of a big crowd. It means a lot to both sets of fans but when you are out on that football pitch you have to take the emotion out of it and just play your normal game and I think we did that very well.”
As Dunfermline went on to record their fourth successive win at the Falkirk Stadium there was nonetheless no hiding Chris’ pleasure in victory:-
“I enjoyed it. It was a really good game and it was one of those when you put so much effort into the game, a big game like that, to get the win away from home with a big travelling support is always nice.
“We knew on the morning of the game that it was sold out, it was an amazing backing but we always knew it was going to be like that in a game like this.
“I know how much it means to the fans. They went home to enjoy their Saturday night and probably their Sunday night as well. They deserved it because last season was a tough one for them and they need to enjoy moments like that.”
Chris joined all his team mates in the celebration of Craig Wighton’s goal but in hindsight he was especially pleased with the goalscorer’s winning goal for the second week running:-
“I am delighted for Craig, he has worked so hard with his injury problems to get back fit, he deserves his goal. We are starting to see glimpses of what he can bring and he can bring so much. Craig had that bit of quality to get us the goal and come away with three points.”
The win at Falkirk was as much a victory for manager James McPake’s game plan. Chris added:-
“He obviously saw something in the opposition that he thought that with a few slight tweaks it would help us in the game. It worked but it is one thing working on something throughout the week, we need to go into the game and implement it. I thought to a man we did that at Falkirk.
“Falkirk are a good team and we knew that it was going to be a tough game. They like to have a lot of possession of the ball but I think we controlled the game pretty well even though we never had the ball for a lot of it, I think we were still in control.
“It was a good three points and as I say the fans have had a hard time last season so they will enjoy it. For us it is another three points and we move on to the next game. Clyde will give us a tough game as they are fighting for their lives. We will be looking to take this vein of form into the match and go into it with the same determination, fight and quality that we had last Saturday.”
