Call up opportunity for Chris
Tuesday, 20th Sep 2022“It recognises for my performances so hopefully I can do well to impress both clubs.
Nineteen year old Chris Mochrie was delighted to be called up into the Scotland U21 squad to play a double header against Northern Ireland over the coming international weekend.
Scot Gemmill`s young side will travel to Belfast for a match on Thursday, 22nd September at Danny Blanchflower Stadium in Belfast, before hosting Northern Ireland at The SMiSA Stadium in Paisley on Sunday, 25th September.
The on loan Dundee United player has already gained international recognition playing four matches at both U19 and U17 levels and seven times at U16s but this is his first opportunity to win an U21 cap.
“I was in an under 21 squad but had to pull out of it through injury so hopefully I can stay the full way and a couple of games against Northern Ireland will be a great experience for me.
“I wasn’t looking for the call up. I had been with the 19s and I’m too old for that now but I wasn’t really thinking about the 21s. I have just came on loan here so I was delighted when I heard but I didn’t really expect it.”
Chris joins a Scotland squad that contains his former Dundee United team mate at youth level, Lewis Neilson. Lewis is now at Hearts and Chris added:-
“I have only spoken to Scot Gemmill a few times so it will my first time really meeting him. I know a few of the boys and it is good for me to be called up, it recognises for my performances so hopefully I can do well to impress both clubs.
“It gives you that confidence knowing that you have been playing well. Hopefully I can just enjoy my first time with the under 21s. I am looking forward to it. I always enjoy the Scotland camps”
It works out as good timing for Chris since Dunfermline’s SPFL Trust game against Celtic B has been put back until November. Chris will miss that match when it comes around since he was cup tied in that competition while playing for Dundee United B against Elgin City.
Good luck with Scotland U21s Chris.
