Kyle looking for buzz from Wasps game

KB:- “If we can go out on Saturday and get three points it`ll give everyone that extra buzz kicking on for the season.

The league campaign is the team’s bread and butter for this season acknowledged Kyle Benedictus and he claims that the disappointment of not qualifying for the knock out stages of the Premier Sports Cup needs to be put behind them:-

“We did want to go through in the cup, but the league is the main goal for the club - and us as players, fans and everyone at the club. I don`t want to set any goals but we need to start winning games and get off to a good start. I know how important it is to get a good start in the league, it can push you on. That`s what we`ll be looking to do."

Winning games can generate a positive vibe about the club something that is sought after the Pars troubled start to last season’s league campaign, Kyle stressed:-

“I`m not going to sit here and say we`re going to do this, we`re going to do that, but it`s very important to get off to a good start. I`ve played in this league before, I know how difficult a league it`s going to be, but we`ve got the players in that dressing room capable of doing it.

“If we can go out on Saturday and get three points it`ll give everyone that extra buzz kicking on for the season. It`ll have the fans behind us and that`s what you want. We know how difficult it`ll be on Saturday, there aren`t going to be any easy games in this league and we need to be ready."

For the second Saturday running the visitors are Brian Rice’s Alloa Athletic, and Kyle is hoping for a better result than last week’s 1-1 draw. Reflecting on the Premier Sports Cup tie he continued:-

"It was a disappointing result, we wanted to go through. If we had won the game we`d have gone through, or if we`d won on penalties. So it`s disappointing that way. As people said, the game probably should have been out of sight before half time. When you`re playing teams like Alloa, who are a good team, it takes one chance and when they got the goal it gave them a bit of confidence. It probably took the stuffing out of us a bit and it was a disappointing result in the end.

"It`s the old cliche - as long as you are creating chances, they will eventually go in. I just think the chances were there, we should be putting the ball in the back of the net. They weren`t just half-chances, they were really, really good chances that the players we`ve got here should be scoring. It happens in football, as long as you are creating chances I’m sure they will put the ball in the back of the net in the coming games.

"We know how stuffy a team Alloa are. Watching the highlights back, you can see Scougall is a player - and they have got good players. We need to be wary of them because they can hurt you at any moment. Also Sammon has played at the highest level, so there`s players that need to be watched. We want to go and put our authority on the game. The first half on Saturday we were probably in control but we didn`t take our chances. It will be a hard game, but we will be ready for it."

Alloa is a club where Kyle spent 2014-2015 on a season long loan from Dundee. He made 35 appearances for the Wasps and scored important goals in both play off rounds. He confessed:-

"I really enjoyed my time there. Our aim was to stay in the league and we managed to do it through the play-offs. There was a lot of good players that time I was there. They`ve always been a good part-time club with very good people around the place. I`m sure they`ll have their own goals this year as well."

Kyle went on to play for seven seasons at Raith after that season in Clackmannan. Three of those seasons were spent in League One and he has been able to warn his current team mates that it is not easy trying to bounce straight back up out of it:-

“It`s probably one of the most difficult leagues to get out of. I`ve been saying to the boys, I know Dunfermline is a massive club and people expect to us to go right back up. But if you don`t put the hard work in, if you don`t get that team spirit around the place, it`ll not just happen with the click of fingers - you need to go and work. I`ve done it before, and there`s boys in there that have probably played at that level as well.

“I`m very confident in the squad we`ve got here. The manager has probably told you he`s looking to bring in a couple of other players that`ll add to us. It`s probably important that does happen, we need a strong squad because you`ll need it for the whole season."

Any new players coming in they can expect a warm welcome, Kyle added:-

“Everyone has been welcoming to me. When I`ve seen people around the place they`ve always been nice to us. I`m really enjoying myself, as I said it was time for a change. I`m buzzing to get going and hopefully get this club back up where it belongs.”

Until that happens League One is the challenge and Kyle said that you can guarantee that it is not going to be pretty every single week:-

“You`ll go to away grounds and they`ll make it hard for you. I had it when I was at Raith, very tough going to the away grounds you`re going to go to. Teams in the league are going to have their goals as well and everybody will be fighting for their position. People will maybe want to stay in the league, people will maybe want to go for play-offs, people want to go for the league.

“They all have different scenarios and it`s never going to be easy. It`ll be about grinding out results. The more we`re winning games, the more we will enjoy it."

There is the additional prospect of teams visiting East End Park actually enjoying coming to a stadium with a nice large grassy playing surface but Kyle agrees that it needs to be a nasty place to visit and is adamant that any team coming should not look forward to their experience:

"We`ll need to grind that out because teams will come and try and stuff you up and stamp their authority on the game. But we just need to ready for it, it`s not like we can`t do that side of the game. There are enough boys in there who can get stuck in as well."
