Dunfermline manager John Hughes admitted that the match against Kilmarnock was very frustrating and it was clear that there was only going to be one winner and that wasn’t his side:-
“I think you have to be honest in your assessment, I don’t know if we were that bad or they were that good but you always have to look at it and if hadn’t been for Jakub it could have been a few more goals.
“It is baffling because one minute we are right up there and the next minute the rollercoaster ride of highs and lows is not taking you where we want to go. We want consistency in performance and that wasn’t there today so we were well, well second best and Kilmarnock thoroughly deserved their victory.”
The gaffer would not attribute any of the defeat to the exertions of Wednesday night and agreed that they need to put a finger on what went wrong:-
“They have not let me down much this year. Probably at Morton and Inverness and today so, without rambling and raving, we have to pick the bones out of it post match. First and foremost you have to look at yourself, could you have been a little bit better, could you have changed it, mixed it up? Everything is in hindsight.
“If you had done that and it went like it did today you would have been kicking yourself. We were on good form, so let’s just keep going but we never got started today.”
You had a few words with the referee at half time?
“No, I thought the referee did very very well. It wasn’t the referee it was the far side linesman, the flag just kept going one way all the time. From where I was standing there were one or two good enough tackles over there but the officials were very good today.”
Your goalkeeper was in sensational form?
“Yes, he had to be and that is the bonus out of it. I will say one thing, no matter what you are doing in football and it is not going for you and you are under the cosh like we are, at 1-0 you are still in the game.
“There was even the chance with Bobby Kamwa, so to lose a second one to a setpiece when we had a more physical side on there is disappointing. We need to be better than that because you are still in with a chance. At 2-0 the game was done.”
Did you think you should have had a penalty at the start of the second half?
“Definitely, he had a grip of his (Efe Ambrose) shirt. You must have seen it as well, it looked clear to me as well.”
